Aesthetics and Chinese
Aesthetics and Chinese is a series of posters based on the design of Chinese characters. The structure of each character is built from its radical strokes, which are presented in rotating and gradual arrangements. The series turns written text into visual symbols and uses font design as a contemporary form of expression. Posters, invitation cards and a book were printed to highlight the character forms. The posters measure 70 by 100 centimetres. The work presents Chinese language and characters as a lasting cultural asset of Oriental culture.
Aesthetics and Chinese Characters by TANG-HSUAN LIEN was identified as a grand representation of communication design by the A' Design Award. Aesthetics and Chinese Characters won the Bronze A' Design Award in Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design in 2020. The A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design recognition program which honors exceptional design of logos, posters, infographics, brochures, packaging designs, business cards, book covers, billboards and more.
